Digital marketing

Digital marketing means getting one specific message to one specific person in a digital channel they are already in, and SEO is only one of those channels. The hard part is not picking a channel, it is not picking the others.

The four things that need an answer before a channel is picked

If any one of these four has no answer, picking a channel is a guess rather than a decision.

  • What you sell

Not the category name, the one thing itself. Web design is a category; an online shop for someone who sells on Instagram today is an offer.

  • For whom

One specific person with one specific problem. Everyone means nobody, and a message written for everyone was written for no one.

  • With what message

One sentence that person understands with no further explanation. If it takes three paragraphs to say, it is not a message yet.

  • Which number you watch

One number, chosen in advance. A number picked after seeing the result is always the one that happened to look good.

These four do not pick the channel, they only rule out the wrong pick. A business whose customers arrive by phone and word of mouth may get nothing out of Instagram even with all four answered correctly.

The path, step by step

Lessons are ordered so each stands on the previous one. You can also jump in anywhere.

  1. 1What digital marketing is and which channel to start withDigital marketing means getting one specific message to one specific person, in a channel that person is already in. The whole job is three decisions: what, to whom, and in which channel; and the channel is the last decision, not the first.Beginner
  2. 2What a marketing funnel is and where it leaksA marketing funnel is the road one person walks from first seeing you to paying you, split into a few steps that can each be counted. Its use is not prediction, it is finding the step where people go missing the most.Beginner
  3. 3Instagram marketing for a small businessInstagram does one thing better than any other channel: putting you in front of someone who was not looking for you. In exchange, the audience you gather there is not yours, and whatever you build has to be kept somewhere else as well.Beginner
  4. 4Telegram marketing: channel, group and botFor a business here, Telegram has three things Instagram does not: a clickable link, files, and a history a new subscriber can read from day one. In exchange its growth is slow, and no algorithm shows you to anyone who has not subscribed.Beginner
  5. 5Google Ads from Iran: what Google itself has writtenOn its own country restrictions page, Google writes that because of OFAC sanctions, Google Ads is not available to advertisers in Iran, and that Iran cannot be targeted as an advertising destination either. For a business whose customers are inside Iran, that means Google search advertising is not on the table at all, rather than being difficult.Intermediate
  6. 6Learning email marketingEmail marketing means sending a message to people who handed you their address themselves, and its real value is that the list belongs to you and no algorithm can take it away. The hard part is not writing the email; it is getting the email into the inbox.Intermediate
  7. 7Analytics for marketingAnalytics for marketing means picking one number per channel that would change your decision if it moved; every other number in the report is decoration. The hard part is not picking that number, it is throwing the rest away.Intermediate
  8. 8AI in digital marketingIn marketing, AI produces the first version and not the last; it is good at drafting and at finding patterns, and bad at telling what is true. The most valuable thing you can do is build the difference between those two into your own workflow.Intermediate

SEO is a channel, not the whole story. Someone who only knows SEO waits three months for the first customer to arrive from Google, and nothing happens in those three months; someone who only knows advertising buys the traffic again every month, and the day the budget stops the number goes back to zero. This path is about the other channels and, more than that, about where each of them sits beside the rest. The depth of SEO itself lives in the SEO path and is not repeated here.

The order of the lessons is not arbitrary either. Channels and audience first, then the funnel, then channel by channel, and analytics and AI last. The reason is that the common mistake is starting in the middle: someone asking whether Instagram beats Telegram usually has no answer yet to the two questions before it, which are what they sell and to whom exactly. Those two unanswered questions waste any channel.

One expectation is worth setting straight now. You will not get a standard number here for what a good conversion rate is or what a customer should cost to acquire. No such number has been published for the Iranian market, and whatever you see in Persian is either a translated foreign report or came from nowhere at all. What you learn is how to work with your own number: the one you had last month, against the one you have this month.

Real follow-up questions

How much budget do I need to start digital marketing?

To start, zero. The move that costs nothing is writing down where your recent customers found you and then taking that channel seriously. What actually runs short is not money but weekly hours; someone who cannot spare two hours a week will not get a result from an ad budget either, because advertising with nobody to answer the messages is just a cost.

Should I learn SEO or digital marketing?

It depends on whether you need customers this month or next year. SEO builds an asset and is slow; ads and social are fast and rented. If you have to read one of the two first, read the one that matches where your customers already come from, not the one you have heard praised more often in videos.

How many channels should I start at once?

One, and for three months. The reason is not aesthetics: with two channels running together, when something gets better or worse you cannot tell which one did it, and your next decision is another guess. The exception is a second channel that costs you nothing extra, such as putting the same content in a second place.

This path is written for someone who runs the campaign themselves. If you have an ad budget and no time to learn on it, see the digital marketing service page
