The short answer
Search volume is an estimate of how many times a phrase is searched on Google in an average month. It is an estimate, not an exact count, and its correct use is comparing two keywords with each other rather than predicting how many people will arrive next month.
The problem everyone working the Persian market runs into is that foreign tools return zero for Persian keywords. The reason is that Google and the data providers do not publish Iran separately, so a tool requesting with an Iran country filter finds nothing. The right approach is to drop the country filter and request by Persian language: the result means Persian-language searches worldwide, of which searches inside Iran are the main share.
Do not read the CPC column with an advertising mindset. The figure is the average cost per click in Google Ads, but its value to an SEO is elsewhere: a high CPC means somebody is willing to pay for this keyword, and nobody pays for a keyword that brings no customers. A mid-volume keyword with a high CPC is almost always better than a high-volume one with a CPC near zero.
The advertising competition column has a misleading name too. It is the intensity of competition among advertisers, not the difficulty of ranking organically. A keyword can have fierce advertising competition and an almost empty organic result page, and the reverse happens too. To estimate organic difficulty, look at the first page for that keyword with the full Google results tool and judge who is standing there.
What you get back
What each output column actually means. Read this before your first run so you do not misread a number.
- Monthly volume
- The average number of monthly Google searches for that keyword; a provider estimate, not an exact figure.
- 12-month trend
- A small bar chart of search volume over the last 12 months, to spot seasonal demand.
- CPC
- The average cost per click in Google Ads for that keyword, in USD and its Toman equivalent (no markup, a display conversion only).
- Ad competition
- How intensely Google Ads advertisers compete on that keyword (low/medium/high); this is not organic SEO difficulty, it's paid-ad competition.
- SEO difficulty
- When the provider supplies it, a 0 to 100 score for how hard it is to rank organically; if blank, this data simply wasn't available for that keyword, not zero.
Where the data comes from
There are two paths. For “Iran” we use Google Ads keyword data with no country filter and the Persian language, i.e. Persian-language searches worldwide. Google and every data provider withhold Iran as a separate breakdown, but searches from inside Iran are included and dominate the figure, verified live with terms that have no use outside Iran (the national judiciary portal, an Iranian mobile operator, the traffic-fine lookup) which all return real, large volume in this mode. For the other countries, data for exactly that country comes from DataForSEO Labs. The only difference in the Persian path: the SEO-difficulty column stays empty, because that metric is location-only and we will not put a guessed number there.
When it helps
Before choosing target keywords for SEO or ads, or to prioritize your rank-tracking keyword list by real volume.
Where it does not help
On the Persian path the SEO difficulty column stays empty, and that is deliberate: that metric is only calculated per location, and since Iran has no location there is no number for it. We do not fill the gap with a guess. The second limitation is the nature of the data: these are provider estimates and they differ between tools, so do not compare a number from one tool with a number from another. Third and most important: search volume measures demand, not sales. A keyword with ten thousand monthly searches where everyone is looking for free is worth less to a shop than one with two hundred where everyone is looking for price and buy.
One thing we learned using it
That the no-country-filter path works correctly for Persian is not a guess, we tested it. We picked keywords with effectively no use outside Iran, such as Sana system, Irancell and vehicle fine enquiry, and in that mode they returned real, large volumes. If the number were merely Persian speakers abroad, those three would have been near zero.
What it costs
No monthly subscription. You top up a wallet and the price of a run is printed on the button before you press it; if you never run it, nothing is deducted.
Questions about this tool
Why do foreign tools return zero for Persian keywords?
Because they request with an Iran country filter, and that filter has no data behind it. The right approach is dropping the country filter and requesting by Persian language, which is what this tool does. That is why you see a number here you do not see elsewhere.
What happens if I set the country to Iran?
A Persian keyword is checked without a country filter either way, whatever you pick. That filter only applies to non-Persian keywords, and there it returns data for exactly that country. The price is the same in both modes.
How many keywords can I send at once?
Up to a hundred per run, and since the price is flat you should always send a full list. Consecutive runs of ten keywords cost ten times a single hundred-keyword run without giving you anything more.
