Compare Your Rank With Competitors, Free and Online

Google Competitor Analysis; Your Real Competitor Isn't Always Who You Think

Many businesses assume their competitor is one or two well-known big brands. But Google picks its own competitor for every single keyword, sometimes a small local store you've never heard of ranks first for the exact phrase that makes you money.

See a Competitor's Domain Authority and Organic Coverage

One keyword's rank is just a slice of the competitive picture. To see overall domain authority and backlink count, try a competitor's domain right here, free.

To see full links, anchors, and spam score, run the full domain analysis in "Tools".

For a fuller picture, we also have two pro tools (wallet-based): "Competitor Keywords" shows what other keywords your competitor ranks for, and "Backlink Analysis" shows which sites link to them, two important signals for understanding how they got there.

Why Your Real Competitor on Google Isn't Who You Think

Say you run a travel agency in a mid-size city and assume your main competitor is that big multi-branch office near the main square. But when you search "flights from your city to the capital" on Google, the top three results might be occupied by a price-comparison site, a national app, and a travel blog, none of your "known" competitors. This is exactly where SEO strategies without real data go wrong: energy gets spent competing with someone who isn't even in that fight.

Your real Google competitor has a simple definition: any domain sitting in the top ten results right now for your target keywords. This list can be, and often is, completely different from your mental list of "market competitors," because your battlefield is Google, not the entire market.

Instant Comparison vs. Daily Competitor Tracking

The tool above is great for a quick glance, but Google rank doesn't stay fixed, daily fluctuation is entirely normal, and that's exactly why a single screenshot isn't the full picture.

Instant comparison (this tool)

Good for: a sales meeting, a quick decision about one specific keyword, or when you want to know today whether you're ahead or behind. It's a snapshot of a moment, not a trend.

Daily tracking (Rank Tracker dashboard)

Your rank and your chosen competitors' rank for every keyword are logged automatically every day; you see a trend chart, weekly and monthly changes, and rank-drop alerts, not just a single number.

An honest note worth knowing: a two- or three-position drop in one day usually isn't worrying, Google constantly reshuffles results a little. What should actually catch your attention is a trend that repeats over several weeks in a row; and seeing that trend is only possible with continuous tracking, not a one-time check. If you want to set up this same tracking for your own keywords, Keyword Rank Tracking on RGB Rank Tracker does exactly this every day, and competitor tracking comes from that same snapshot, at no extra cost.

The SOV (Share of Voice) Metric, Explained Simply

SOV, or Share of Voice, is one of the most precise metrics for telling you how much real "space" you actually occupy in a keyword cluster, not for one keyword, but across the whole topic.

The formula is simple: out of all the keywords that matter to you, what percentage of the good ranks (say, the top three) belong to you, and what percentage belongs to each competitor? If Competitor A ranks first in seven out of your ten target keywords and you're only in the top three for two, the SOV number clearly shows how far behind you are, even if you always rank first for your own brand keyword and that gives you a false sense of security.

SOV's advantage over looking at individual keyword ranks is that it gives you a single, trackable number over time; in the Rank Tracker dashboard, this number is calculated automatically from that same daily rank data and shown on a chart.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out who my real competitor on Google is?
The simplest way is manually searching your target keywords and noting the top three domains. If you have several keywords, the comparison tool above or the competitor tracking dashboard does this for you, automatically and daily.
How accurate is an instant rank comparison?
It's accurate, but only for that exact moment. Google rank fluctuates a little day to day; for strategic decisions, you need a multi-week trend, not a single check.
Does competitor tracking cost extra?
On RGB, competitor rank is extracted from the same daily snapshot we take for your own keyword; meaning you pay no extra cost for tracking a competitor, unlike some similar tools that price each competitor separately.
What exactly is the difference between SOV and a plain rank?
A plain rank is just one number for one keyword. SOV gives you a bigger-picture view of your entire keyword cluster and shows how much of the total "visibility space" you hold overall, a better metric for long-term decisions.
How many competitors can I track at once?
There's no strict limit on competitor count; since competitor rank is extracted from the same daily snapshot as your own keyword, adding more competitors doesn't increase your wallet cost.
Is this data personalized?
No. The results you see are independent of your search history or personal location, exactly what any other user would see for the same keyword and location.
If my competitor always ranks first, does that mean I've lost?
Not necessarily. A single keyword's rank is only part of the picture. Check your standing across the whole keyword cluster (not just one keyword), which is exactly what SOV shows. Sometimes ranking second or third on several high-traffic keywords carries more commercial value than ranking first on one low-traffic keyword.
What does competitor tracking have to do with keyword research?
Page-one competitors are usually the best guide for understanding real user intent. Before tracking competition, it's better to first build the right keyword cluster with our keyword research tool.
