A single number means little on its own. A Google rank moves day to day and even city to city, so the trend matters more than today figure.
A check result has several parts, each answering a different question, not just one number:

Rank 1-3 means top of page one; rank 4-10 still means page one, but lower down; rank 11+ means page two and beyond, where real clicks drop off sharply. Exactly which page of your site is sitting in Google. Sometimes the page you expected to rank isn't the one that ranks, and a different page (an old blog post, say) has taken its place; that's an important clue for fixing your site structure. If the "wrong" page consistently ranks, it usually means the "right" page lacks internal links or has weaker content than the competition.
