The short answer
Domain authority is a 0 to 100 number estimating how much trusted linking a domain has behind it compared with others. It is not a Google figure and Google publishes no authority score at all; it is a metric data providers build so that two domains can be compared.
The right use of this number is comparison, not target setting. Getting my authority to 50 is a meaningless sentence, because nothing acts on the number directly; what you act on is the links, and the number is a consequence. But the competitor ranking first for this keyword has twice my authority is a sentence that turns straight into a plan.
In practice the referring-domain count matters more than the total backlink count, and the gap between them is itself a signal. A thousand backlinks from ten domains is ten votes, not a thousand, and it usually means a footer or a sidebar on one site. A hundred backlinks from eighty domains is a far healthier picture, even with the smaller total.
If you are buying a second-hand domain, read this tool alongside the WHOIS profile. High authority with a young age almost always means purchased links; a long age with authority near zero means nobody has linked to it in years, which is not a bad start but gives you nothing either.
What you get back
What each output column actually means. Read this before your first run so you do not misread a number.
- Domain authority
- A 0–100 score, normalized from DataForSEO's own internal 0–1000 scale.
- Google organic coverage
- The number of keywords this domain ranks for on google.com (US market); usually empty for Iranian sites, a known provider limitation.
Where the data comes from
Combines backlinks summary (always available) with DataForSEO Labs domain_rank_overview (US market/google.com only, since Labs does not currently cover Iran).
When it helps
For a quick check of your own or a competitor's SEO standing before deciding on collaboration or competition.
Where it does not help
The Google organic reach column comes back empty for most Iranian sites, and we say that up front. That figure comes from a database covering only the US market and google.com, and Iran is not in it; empty means we have no data, not zero. The other two figures, authority and backlinks, do work for Iranian domains. The second limitation is conceptual: none of these numbers are Google numbers and none of them guarantee a ranking. A domain with lower authority can outrank a higher one with better content that matches search intent more closely, and in Persian results that happens often.
One thing we learned using it
On Persian projects we have repeatedly seen that the authority gap does not explain the order of results. The reason is that in many Persian queries the link competition is not as fierce as in English-speaking markets, and a page that answers exactly that question rises more easily. So if your authority is lower than a competitor, you are not necessarily losing; but if your content is weaker too, then the authority number is only confirming something that was already obvious.
What it costs
No monthly subscription. You top up a wallet and the price of a run is printed on the button before you press it; if you never run it, nothing is deducted.
Questions about this tool
Is domain authority a Google metric?
No. Google publishes no public authority score. Any number you see under that name is built by a data provider and is only meaningful for comparing two domains, not as a grade Google gave you.
How do I raise my domain authority?
Not directly. The number is a consequence of the links other sites give you. What actually works is building something worth linking to, then getting it in front of people who can link. Buying links moves the number without moving the ranking, and the risk is yours.
Does it work for .ir domains?
Yes for authority and backlinks. The Google organic reach column usually stays empty, because its source does not cover Iran.
