What xAI actually builds
xAI builds Grok, and its developer documentation prices five product surfaces: the text models, the Grok Build coding agent, Imagine for image and video, Voice for speech, and the server-side tools. What you will not find on this page is any claim about Grok inside the X app, and the reason is below.

What we could not read, and why we say so
x.ai returns 403 to our server on every path, through WebFetch and through curl with a browser user agent. The robots.txt on that same domain allows crawling and even names several AI crawlers as permitted. So this is not a rule we would be breaking, it is bot protection that has caught us.
Everything on this page therefore comes from docs.x.ai, which is fully open, and no figure about a consumer Grok subscription, Grok inside the X app or grok.com is written here. If you see those numbers elsewhere, ask where they came from. We are in exactly the same position on the OpenAI page and we say it there too.
The most complete price list in this group
On one page xAI puts text, image, video, text to speech, speech to text and live voice side by side. But the rare part sits lower down: a price for each server-side tool invocation. Web search, X search and code execution run $5 per thousand calls, searching attached files $10, and searching document collections $2.50.
For anyone building an agent that matters, because in an agentic run the model decides how many tools to call, and that part of the invoice is normally written nowhere and surprises you at the end of the month. No other vendor in this reference publishes those figures. Add priority processing at a 2x premium and a 20 percent batch discount, both stated as numbers.
Where that same openness turns on itself
The batch discount table shows Grok 4.5 missing from the discount list, and the Batch API page is blunter: the model is not supported and its requests are rejected. The vendor flagship is the one model with no cheap high-volume lane.
The second one falls out of the model data on the catalogue page itself: the grok-latest alias points at Grok 4.3, not 4.5. For a vendor this open everywhere else, both are odd, and both are documented in the right place. Just not anywhere a buyer looks.
What it is good at

Where it falls short
- x.ai returns 403 to our server on every path, so this reference carries no consumer claim about Grok.
- No supported-countries list exists in the open documentation, so the Iran column stays unchecked.
- The Batch API refuses the vendor own flagship while cheaper models take the discount.
- No maximum output token figure is published for any model.
- The grok-latest alias points at 4.3 rather than the flagship, which is easy to get wrong.
- Its image, video and voice models have no verified row on any leaderboard we can read, so they are absent from our rankings.
Our take
If you are building agents and want to model the cost in advance, this is the clearest price list in this reference, and that alone is a good reason to take xAI seriously. But while the consumer half of this vendor stays unreadable to us, everything we write here is about the API and not about what an ordinary user buys.

What does Grok cost
Grok 4.5 is $2 in and $6 out per million tokens, and $4 and $12 from 200,000 tokens up. Grok 4.3 is $1.25 and $2.50. We have no consumer subscription price, because x.ai returns 403 to us.
What is Grok Build
The xAI command line coding agent, running on Grok 4.5 itself, with an interactive interface, a headless mode for scripts and connections to outside tools through an agent protocol.
Does Grok work from Iran
Unchecked and unwritten. The developer documentation carries no country list and x.ai own pages do not open for us, so any firm answer today has no source behind it.
