Udio, and the downloads that were switched off
Udio still generates songs, but since 29 October 2025 downloading audio, video and stems has been disabled, and its own help centre says so plainly. If you need the output for a video or a client, Udio is not your tool today, however many credits you buy.
- downloads disabled
- v1.5 Allegro model
- no dollar price published
Last checked: This is a reference page. It is re-checked against the vendor sources and updated when a new version ships. What changed
What exactly was switched off
On the page Udio wrote to explain the changes that came with the Universal deal there are four pieces of good news and one short line. The good news: a one-off grant of 1,000 non-expiring credits to every subscriber, the Standard monthly cap up from 1,200 to 2,400, the Pro cap up from 4,800 to 6,000, and Pro users allowed five sets of songs at once instead of four. The short line at the end: note that downloading of audio, video and stems has been disabled.
That sentence changes the whole calculation. More credits means you can generate more; what you generate stays inside the service. For anyone who wants music under a video or in a client deliverable, the difference between a thousand songs a month and zero files a month is the difference between a tool and a toy.
Credits and caps
A free account gets 10 credits a day against a monthly ceiling of 100, and regardless of credits it may only create three two minute songs a day. A Standard subscription allows up to 2,400 credits a month and Pro up to 6,000. Every Create, Extend or Remix produces two songs: two 32 second songs cost two credits, two 130 second songs cost four.
Subscription credits do not roll over, and if the subscription lapses the account reverts to free-tier limits. Credits bought separately never expire.
The models, and why the rank is low
The Warner page states that during this transition the same v1, v1.5 and v1.5 Allegro models remain available. On the Artificial Analysis boards, Udio v1.5 Allegro scores 967 with vocals and 954 instrumental: fourteenth of fifteen and sixteenth of eighteen. That is roughly two hundred points behind Suno.
The reason is not hidden. These models date from March 2025 and everyone else has shipped twice since. Udio says its next service will be built with Warner and Universal data and cooperation, but gives no date, and we do not invent one.
What we could not read
The price. Udio pricing page, its home page and its terms of service are all rendered in JavaScript and return an empty body to our server. So we know that Standard and Pro exist and what their credit ceilings are, and we do not know what they cost. That is why the price cell for Udio is empty in the category table, and the emptiness costs it nothing we did not hand it.
The country list too. Because the terms page will not render for us, we have seen no sanctions clause and no list of countries. For Iran that means we have not checked, not that it is open.
Using it from Iran
This column carries a date and says how it was checked, because most listicles guess it. Where we have only read a vendor policy page, the note below says exactly that.
- Reachable
- not checked
- Payment
- not checked
- Free tier
- yes
- Measured on
How we checked: Both cells in this column read unknown, and the honest reason is that we found nothing to read. Udio terms of service page is rendered in JavaScript and returns an empty body to our server, so we have neither a sanctions clause nor a country list. Its help centre, which is readable, says nothing about countries or payment methods.
What it is good at
- Its help centre is direct, and it published the unwelcome change itself, which is rare among these four
- Credit ceilings rose after the Universal deal, plus a permanent grant of 1,000 credits
- The free account works without a card and is enough to hear what the model sounds like
Where it falls short
- Downloading audio, video and stems is disabled; nothing leaves the service.
- No dollar price is published for any plan, because the pricing page will not render for us.
- The models date from March 2025 and sit near the bottom of both music boards.
- A free account may create only three two minute songs a day, regardless of credits.
- We have read no document about reaching or paying Udio from Iran, and we will not guess.
Our take
While downloads stay off, Udio is not a candidate for professional work, and for fun its rivals simply sing better. It is worth watching, because two major music companies have staked the next version on it. But today, if you want the file, go elsewhere.
Questions people actually ask
Why can you not download songs from Udio
Because on 29 October 2025, alongside the Universal Music Group deal, downloading of audio, video and stems was disabled. Udio own help article states it.
How much does Udio cost
We do not know. Udio pricing page renders in JavaScript and comes back empty for our server. All we could read is the credit ceilings: 2,400 for Standard and 6,000 for Pro.
How long a song does Udio make
The longest size its help centre names is 130 seconds, about two minutes, and each generation returns two songs. A free account gets three of that size per day.
