The short answer

Brand mention monitoring means finding every page on the web that has your name on it. Its most useful application is not in the name: finding sites that wrote about you but gave no link, which are the easiest links there are to get.

A site that has written your name has already done the hardest part: it decided to write about you. Asking for a link to be added to that same sentence is the smallest request you can make of a publisher, and its acceptance rate is far higher than any cold outreach. It is the only form of link building that needs no new content.

The second use is measuring the effect of a campaign. Take the page count before and after an event and look at the gap. That number is more honest than views and likes, because it shows how many people cared enough to write, not how many scrolled past.

Look at the most frequent publishers column separately. If one site keeps mentioning your name, it is either a fan or a competitor writing comparisons. Both are worth seeing and each calls for different action, but neither falls out of the total figure and you have to open the list itself.

Where the data comes from

Two DataForSEO content analysis calls: one statistical summary and one sample list of pages. The sentiment analysis is machine-made and errs on Persian text, so treat it as a signal, not a verdict. If your brand name is a common word, open the samples and check whether they are really about you.

When it helps

To find sites that mention you without linking (a link opportunity that needs no new content), or to see how much was written about you after a campaign.

Where it does not help

Tone analysis is machine made and errs on Persian text. Treat it as an indication rather than a verdict, and before you report to anyone that a given percentage of coverage is negative, open a few negative examples and read them yourself. The second and more important limitation is the brand name: if your name is a common Persian word, a large part of the result is not about you at all and the total figure becomes meaningless. For such brands always open the samples, and if most are irrelevant, do not put the total into any report. Third, coverage is not complete: this list is what the provider has indexed, and social networks and messaging apps are not in it, which for the Iranian market is where a large share of the conversation lives.

One thing we learned using it

If your brand name is a common word, open the sample list before any other number. In practice we have repeatedly seen a total that looked large and encouraging while half the pages had nothing to do with that business. That is why this tool gives real samples with their URLs alongside the total rather than a summary statistic alone: a number you cannot check is a number you cannot rely on.

Questions about this tool

How do I get links from this list?

Separate the pages that mention you without linking, and send each one a short, specific message referring to that exact sentence. Asking for a link to be added to text that already exists is accepted far more readily than asking somebody to write something new.

How reliable is the tone analysis?

Limited for Persian text. Read it as an initial signal telling you which samples to open first, not as a reportable statistic. Never put a tone figure into a client report without reading several examples.

My brand name is an ordinary word, what should I do?

Open the samples and see what share is genuinely about you. If a large part is irrelevant, set the total aside and use only the list of relevant publishers. That list still has link-building value even when the overall statistic is meaningless.
